Both essential. Lovers of order need to avoid dogmatism & lovers of ambiguity to avoid incoherence. They can help each other with this.https://twitter.com/christianjbdev/status/886884645673062400 …
Although, in reality, few people fall into one or the other category neatly. More helpful to recognise your own leanings & mitigate them.

Liking order doesn't require seeing all of reality simplistically & liking ambiguity doesn't require seeing it all as a glorious mess.
-
My leaning is towards order, obv. I see ambiguity & complexity as things to be broken down & examined in an orderly way.
-
But this doesn't make me conservative. I don't think there's necessarily a right way to be & that it should be conserved.
-
In this way, I am a pluralist & an individualist & I value progress which are more associated with liberalism.
-
Although collectivism & a single right way to think is more associated with authoritarian extremes of right & left than right or left itself
-
I want there to be diversity of ideas but I also want to understand how they all work & evaluate them in a consistent, orderly way.
-
So, yeah. Ambiguity & complexity are a reality & productive of innovation & progress but not if we don't approach them rigorously.
