Of all the things I've ever been blocked for, saying ppl who don't believe in afterlife also bury loved ones with tokens is the oddest.

In this case, I don't think burying ppl with tokens is itself an indication of belief in an afterlife. Much other evidence of belief exists
-
Maybe if we go hundreds of years w/out belief in an afterlife, we will just tip bodies in holes & not care about a good 'send-off.'
-
But I suspect there's more to the human need to tend to our dead, make them 'comfortable', & personalise our goodbyes than this one belief.
-
It's completely irrational to spend a lot of money on pillowed coffins, put bodies in best clothes with personal tokens &set fire to the lot
-
But, in other ways it's absolutely rational because it fulfils psychological needs to show we cared abt you, we knew you, you were special.

I don't think this fully explained by belief in an afterlife & I don't think it'll go away if no-1 believes in 1 for centuries. Cld be wrong

I'm atheist. I don't believe in the supernatural etc. But I love folklore, traditions, rituals etc. How we treat the ppl in our lives, alive
-
or dead, is part of who we are. Many have meaning. And no religion influences this for me. So, I will always take part in the traditions

Sometimes it seems the loss of nuance in online communication has become internalized, and has propagated to everyday thinking for some.
