I already feel sorry for asking, but what exactly is the motivation for those who want gender to be considered a purely social construct?
eg Lots of stuff once called women's moral weakness, fickleness & suggestibility can now be related to greater empathy & openness.

Our sympathies are more easily engaged. We feel more sympathy with people receiving 'deserved' negative consequences on average.

More recently, the wish to see gender as a social construct is motivated by concern for trans acceptance.

Rather than 'Accept trans people's identity. It feels right to them & doesn't hurt you' - gotta change how everyone thinks of gender.

Yeah, but trans is only a small minority. This movement seems to be much bigger than that. Maybe I'm wrong.
