I am constantly amazed at the inability of some people of seemingly normal intelligence to have a reasonable conversation.

Sometimes it feels like talking to someone who has Alzheimers or is extremely stoned. Do you remember the point & what was said about it?

In conversation, I make a point & you respond to that point by saying what u disagree with & why. Then I respond to that. That's how it works

And I'm not using Alzheimers meanly as an insult. I worked w/ people with dementia for years. This is what some conversations remind me of.

Non-sequiturs. Forgetting the point. Changing subject. Repeating themselves. Insisting they didn't say things they said 5 minutes ago.

These aren't stupid people. It's an entirely different language game. I don't know how to play it & I don't want to coz winning is worthless

You know they're not stupid coz there's a cleverness in the evading & misreading & feigned confusion. Put your brain to better use!

And now I've been rude to someone in frustration which I'm ashamed of. I doubt I will ever learn to walk away. Grumpy now.

It's usually the most articulate people who are most guilty of this I've found. Might not even be intentional. They just confuse themselves.

They realize they misstated their point with a bogus claim then adjust their position in real time and pretend it was that the whole time.

I guess the silver lining is that this entails them adjusting their position. Would just be nice if they admitted it.

This is probably not the exact same type of dishonesty you're talking about but it's one that bugged me recently so I'm ranting here :p
