I take your point, but disagree in that he's not basing his refusal to speak with him in the content of his ideas; rather not being "big"
Some big names among MRAs & alt-right have attacked me. I don't care coz they have zero influence among people whose thinking I respect.
-
-
This also isn't about attacking anyone. It is about having a discussion or ignoring a discussion based on being "big"
-
I ignore them when they try to have a discussion with me too. I'm ignoring a very big one right now. Nothing to gain from it.
-
Nothing to gain from discussion? Do you think both you and I will leave this discussion having gained nothing? If so, why bother?
-
I have clearly said there is nothing to gain from certain people's discussions. Those who are rigid & wed to an ideology. No common ground.
-
I don't believe you need common ground with everyone you converse with. It's good to disagree. Hone your argument. Plant seeds of doubt
-
I think you do have to be prepared to try to find some common ground even if its just 'we both care about human rights'
-
Coz then you can go from there. Its not just 'You're evil & wrong' 'No, you're evil & wrong.' Me, on this:pic.twitter.com/yP24pHDoy2
-
I don't talk to those MRAs coz they just repeat that society is fully gynocentric, men are 100% victims & (sometimes) women are evil

But if someone influential within liberal/sceptical circles would be way more worth answering. Coz they are a much bigger deal.
-
Also, there's big & there's big. Eli isn't that well known. I didn't know him. Fewer ppl know me but that's no measure of what is big!
-
Because I'm not big...my show isn't big...James has no idea who I am. Yet he responded to me, shared my tweet but ignored Eli
-
Exactly. There's no grounds to accuse him of ignoring people coz not influential. Eli gets ignored for other reasons.
-
I'm not accusing. Those are words right from James' own tweet. No accusation needed. You might ignore for other reasons but not James
-
He did *not* say that he wouldn't discuss coz not big. He said he didn't bother muting him coz he wasnt
-
In regards to people attempting conversation with him about a paper he asked for a review on. Full context of the discussion matters
-
It doesn't change what was responded to. I can't suggest anything else that getting over someone changing mind about talking to you.

Because that's how this started. A review was requested, a person responded saying I'll talk about it, and then *crickets*
-
I don't know about reviews but not wanting to talk to Eli & ignoring him coz he's not significant to subject under discussion is fair enough
-
Again I'll cite context then. Why insert yourself into the conversation w/o the full context? Just to try & defend someone you're a fan of?
