They do understand that. They just don't think this makes God real. Why is this hard?https://twitter.com/pickledwords/status/884762809665544192 …

I really want to move on from these repeated arguments abt what atheism/scepticism/rationalism/empiricism etc do & don't mean ...
-
...in relation to religion, faith, meaning, morality, worldviews, philosophy etc. We've been having them for too long.
-
But it's hard when people refuse to stop being so very wrong about it. Best I can do is not look for these arguments.
-
Since reading Everybody is Wrong about God, I can't have these old 'debates' without imagining
@GodDoesnt looking at my tweets like this:pic.twitter.com/9DlgRTvIiI

However, he looks at everything like that so I don't let it bother me too much. ;-)

What do you mean if you say that the probability of your existence is tiny?
-
What I said there. The chances of me personally existing. All my ancestors surviving, mating, at that exact time with those exact mates/
-
Yeah, I'm probably thinking too much into it, but... 1) I'm a determinist so I believe that your existence IS inevitable.
-
My parents had to meet? Theirs did? They had to have sex on the day they did? Their ancestors had to survive the plague etc?
-
Your parents HAD to meet etc. But this is getting philosophical. I don't think I can easily convince you of my viewpoint and vice versa.

I *think* it's safe to argue that "an ice age" should be "ice ages".... But other that that. I love this argument.

There's definitely quite a lot of wonder in life, the universe & existence itself. Religions have no monopoly on that.

You describe us beautifully, Helen. The pious can't grasp that we have access to all they have — and more, because we know how we're all 1/

interconnected: The earth and sea; fish, plants, and animals; and the sun and stars…they all course through our veins and fill our lungs. 2/
-
And yet, *we're* made out to be the bad guys for understanding that one doesn't have to 'believe' in god to have morals and ethics. 3/
-
(I'd argue that it's better NOT to believe, since if one feels they need that belief for the M/E, one never had them in the first place) 4/4
