Good article. Gotta feel bad for John, that was cold.

Not cold but shows how religion warps morality. She's saying she's so devoted to God that she'd sacrifice her own husband who she loves.
-
And this would result in saving not only herself from sin & damnation but him too. John was more worldly, more humanist.
-
Ah ok, he was strawmaning her to get laid in the first place I suppose. 'You are no christian John'

-
He wanted to know if religion was the only thing important to her now or if she still cared for him.
-
I was making a joke, which obviously didn't work because I have to explain it was a joke.

-
I am having a complete sense of humour failure today. Apologies.
-
It's ok. Anyway reading your article I was struck by how similar modern day patriarchies are to archaic ones.

When, in your opinion, did the English-speaking West cease to be a patriarchy?
-
It varies by nation but generally it did so in stages over the 20th century.

A mild hangover. That's a pretty good analogy.

Great article. The focus away from direct doctrine and the like elevated it to humanism.

And yet another great piece from you ^_^, I made the same kind of argument when discussing historical patriarchy. Societies were more
-
complicated than just the rule of law let you thinks. You need to study how people really lived, then you see that power takes multiple form
-
and those form can lead to it's take over elsewhere. Sure women couldn't lead armies, yet some did. Blanche de Castille was certainly not
-
oppressed by the patriarchy. We could even say that she was a playa.
-
Same thing for the concept of honor code, one could only wonder why they would need one if it was already enacted.
-
Knights and samurai were soldiers, and acted like it, they were not gentlemen in armor. Betrayal and murder wasn't unusual for them.
