I tried black pudding when over there. Never again.

Well, no. That's a Northern thing. You don't want to do that.
-
Hey now, what's wrong with black pudding?
-
Everything, and I'm from the North East UK. My dad loved the stuff, but me, no thanks

-
Oh well, over here it's a fairly common, low cost, staple. I love the stuff, especially with some bacon and lingonberryjam on the side

Molasses and pork add sweetness and smokiness to baked beans! Versus .. no discernible flavor. Come on over to the dark side, Helen!
-
The argument I've always used (e.g. to my wife) is that when (as in UK) you have high quality ingredients, you don't need to add "flavour".
-
That's a bit like claiming, "baby, it ain't the size of the ship, it's the motion of the ocean ... "

Modesty forbids...

Funny the most flavorable part of the English breakfast is the black pudding. Absolutely delicious. The rest isn't bad, just .. a bit bland.
