The prison 'gap' is an interesting one. I wonder if like the wage gap it has to with the different crimes the sexes are likely to commit.

No, the comparison is on the same crimes. If we were to take it overall, it would be much bigger.

So a man and woman each convicted of the same crime, embezzlement say, tend to get different sentences based on their sex? Well that sucks.
