The only thing that's potentially misleading is that it looks like I'm not that keen on tradition when I actually like it quite a lot.

This comes down to 2 things. 1) A lot of it was about religion & I don't have one. 2) It asks whether its important & I just think its nice.

I like to feel connected to history & seek out opportunities to feel that way. I like the ritual aspects of tradition for that reason.

I love a pearly king & queen procession and a maypole dance. I'm sad we rarely see kids making guys and asking for a penny for them now.

But I cldn't honestly say they are *important* in terms of societal health. Giving me a warm, fuzzy feeling is not same as being important.

I see value in preserving neutral cultural things for their own sake - music, art, festivities, traditions - because I like history &culture

But if they have an ethical/human rights component, tradition is not a good enough reason to continue them.

So, I'd be all for trying to get yng people interested in traditions like cheese rolling but not understandings of gender roles or marriage

And I find it hard to understand people who see tradition as something to indiscriminately uphold or tear down for moralistic purposes.

No. Most of my tweeps are somewhere around here but there's a fair number of socialists and very progressives and a couple of conservatives.
