That fact misses the point. The question is whether the healthcare provider is free to make as much as he would like or need in medicaid.
Then don't work for it. I never got to negotiate my salary with the NHS but did working privately.

I agree with you, but the question is what would be lost if we worked under a Medicaid for all like system where profits are capped.

I think that's something for health professionals to consider when deciding how to work rather a make or break for having the service.

I have private healthcare. The consultants at the top of their field work there. They've also all contributed a day or 2 to the NHS.

A week. They don't have to, obviously. It's a kind of charitable thing so ppl who can't afford private HC can still benefit.

and I was agreeing that a mandated ceiling on profits was untenable. They should be paid commensurate with their skill, experience, etc.

That seems to be how it works here. NHS pays certain rate. The best can get jobs in private orgs, the very best go independent, set own fee.
