Public hospital care very good for urgent/emergency care. Delays for 'elective' or non urgent care. That's where private is an advantage.
-
Exactly. As someone with a chronic but non-urgent condition, I have private healthcare to reduce waiting times.
-
I have had cardiac treatment (stents) in both systems. No difference in standard of care and immediate treatment in both cases.

Americans are highly conditioned to think their healthcare system is good but just needs tweaking. It sucks on every measure
-
Worse when rabid right wingers in the UK adopt all their talking points. Just ignore that these ppl often have ties to pharma & insurers.
-
Offer stats proving better outcomes, they reply w/ anecdotes where pay to play is superior. Thousands die so the affluent can avoid lines...
-
Affluent avoid lines in the UK too, and private insurance in UK is much cheaper than US too. The US system is a disaster

There will always be options for those with means. The questions are what standard should be provided to those without, & how to pay for it.

This one always gets me.... So we have both, and they have "private or nothing"? And we are somehow worse off? Ok.....

First part is currently true for people in Cuba. (But obviously that'd be a nonsensical argument against public healthcare in the USA.)

Australian system is not perfect but it works. Nobody misses medical for lack of money.

Certainly not true in Australia. We pay 2% levy on income towards universal health care. Public hospital free. Can insure for private hosp.
