And there's a lot of refuting unseen claims that healthcare is a right which exists objectively outside humanity's conception of rights.

I genuinely don't know what they are talking about.
-
It does feel very odd for me, an atheist, to be told by Christians that rights are a human concept & there's no objectively moral stance.
-
I agree obviously. We need to argue for the right to healthcare as a moral good. But where do they think I think those ethics come from?
-
That's the answer that needs to be articulated by proponents. What distinguishes a good policy from a right?
-
I am just discovering that Americans use the term 'right' in a quasi religious sense to mean something inalienable that exists objectively.
-
Whereas I am talking about 'things we decide that a good society should provide for all its citizens.'
-
Whereas human rights are not something for society to decide. They are an ethical version of a scientific discovery.

Free market healthcare: the doctor does their job, gets paid. Socialised healthcare: the doctor does their job, gets paid.

Aye, when Rand Paul gave that psychotic speech about "healthcare bring a right" amounting to enslaving him. So much for Hippocratic oath :P

I've had US doctors argue to me that the UK refuses to treat most things as there isn't insurance to pay lol
-
I realised there's a lot of conspiracy theories in the US about UK and Europe health systems, trying to pretend socialism doesn't work lol

They somehow seem to think that doctors are free to pick and choose who they treat but not if they get their wages from "big government".

Opponents are either misinformed or afraid of anything that smells like socialism.

And to me as a Canadian. My insurance is held by the Province (with help from National gov.), and our healthcare workers are paid.

That and guns. We're so similar on many ways either side side of the pond, but health care and gun control expose sharp differences.
