Whether or not something is helpful depends on the problem you're trying to fix. #NotAll addresses the problem of generalisations.

When ppl are defensive, it usually means they're feeling attacked. Before condemning this, check you are not, in fact, attacking them.

Remind me, who are the first people to come along with
#NotAll once you generalize a group that isn't "straight white men"?
-
It must depend on your circle of friend, for me it's straight white men. Weird isn't it?
-
It's straight white men that come along and say
#NotAll when they are not the ones being generalized? -
Not as group, no, but people don't act as a group based on their 'identity'. You don't need to be a woke poc to dislike generalization.
-
I am neither woke nor poc, so I have to agree on that. I also dislike identity politics as is eradicates the
#NotAll option from discourse. -
-
Some people use these phrases to further their narrative, often coupled with hypocrisy. Both evoke reactions that are unhelpful overall.
-
Yes I can agree on that. ^_^

Funny how ppl who deride 'everyday misogyny' seem to have no problem w/ how acceptable everyday misandry has become as a response.

If someone could post a graphic explaining when the Skittles argument is acceptable and when it not, that would be very helpful.

This is an interesting mental exercise. Take the original elevator analogy & use any general categories and preconception about category.

You criticise, but imagine being stuck in an elevator with a Muslim, not knowing which group they're in! /sarcasm
