'Think about it' often received as 'you haven't thought about this or you'd see I'm right.' 'Don't u think?' as 'you cld think differently'

Just as 'Does that make sense?' often taken as 'I'm trying to teach you my wisdom' but 'Am I making sense?' as 'I'm aware I could be wrong.'
-
When someone tells me to 'think about it', my instinct is to tell them I think about it regularly & show how I do it better. Silly, I know
-
Whereas 'don't you think?' makes me want to agree with them as much as I can & present areas of disagreement courteously.
-
And 'Does that make sense' motivates me to argue that it doesn't whilst 'Am I making sense' makes me want to look harder for the sense.

Agreed on Think v Think but I never considered Sense v Sense until you highlighted the distinction. I am now thinking about it.
-
More subtle & also more able to be mitigated by tone but I think difference is in owning it. Makes it a position not the position.
