Entirely depends on how you are defining 'Gender'. We have always visualised differently from sex & on a spectrum.

I mostly look at the ways in which women negotiated patriarchy using religious narratives in England from 1300-1700.

But we see it there too. People are seen as been more or less 'manly' or 'womanly' & value judgements are made according to this.
