My other two boy dogs were like this. Preferred women. I don't know if that's more common but we are seen as less of a threat. 1/2https://twitter.com/Dangiddy/status/880003413089685504 …

One of my dogs - Shadow - was a very neurotic rescue & had a lot of fear aggression so I had to read a lot about dog body language.
-
I was making him worse by getting tense & walking quickly & straight past other dogs. It told him they weren't our friends.
-
Sources advised slowing down & walking in a relaxed way and in a slight arc towards other dogs shows that they are friends.
-
This worked. Licking lips is a sign of placation so I did this sometimes. Decided against throwing myself on stomach or doing a little wee.
-
Sadly, we couldn't save poor Shadow. He went for a little boy who was shouting in play. Cldn't hurt him coz muzzled but would have.
-
And he was anxious & afraid all the time he wasn't with me (hence 'Shadow') & bit himself & threw himself at doors & walls causing injury.

Behaviourist said it was because he was intelligent - Collie/Doberman - & Staffies who are thick overcome past trauma much better. Loved himpic.twitter.com/S0etUtThH8

Wonder if that's a general mammalian reflex - wiggle bum to find new friends. I'll try it in the pub later.
-
I'm not sure it will work on women.

I shall experiment. I will wiggle expansively towards dogs in the park. It may alarm the owners. No worries there is always a trade off.
