People making out that postmodernism is like a religion -- many (though not all) religious believe quite strongly in objective truth.

Creationists definitely use postmodernist type arguments as a strategy.

But not as a cynical one, I don't think. As a compatible way of thinking to support their own way.

Oh I think they're pretty cynical. They'd like to just replace evolution with creationism but know it's impossible.

So you get all this 'who can tell the truth?' and 'we must teach both sides' crap. I suspect it's quite calculated.

Its a motte & bailey thing, I think, yes, but I think they believe in it.

The dishonesty is intellectual. They believe in their religion or in PoMo but soften or strengthen claims

Well, a lot of it is rationalisation. They believe in it because they need to justify its use for some purpose or another.
