This doesn't really work in any area. We can't redress injustices done to the dead by the dead. We can only redress those that exist now.

It particularly fails in relation to historical gender oppression seeing that we all have an equal number of male & female ancestors.

I'm not the heir of oppressed women & men not the heirs of oppressive men even if it were that straightforward & inherited guilt reasonable

But this argument will fail to satisfy people who see history as a social justice problem needing to be addressed by contemporary society.

They've said things like 'you can't abuse & exploit people for centuries & then say 'OK, we'll stop now' & expect them to just get over it.'

Which I think shows very clearly the problem with elevating group identity way above shared humanity & individuality.

But they genuinely feel this way & on a deep, emotional & moral level so we need to engage with that as well as point out it's unreasonable
