No1s been able to give me example of patriarchy in the US w/out changing meaning to a)Men & women make different choices or b)assholes exist
The standard definition that I gave in my last tweet after you wrote this.

OK, fair enough. Fwiw, I completely agree that when there's no vestige of patriarchy in formal laws, then it basically doesn't exist.
-
Then we are left with some attitudes & the important job of negotiating our way through those that are limiting & those that aren't.
-
This is best done in ppl's own lives. eg rather than blaming patriarchy for an expectation that women will do more housework, show it false
-
By not doing it if you don't want to. If you do want to & this works out well for you as a couple, everyone else should leave you alone.
-
Coz what we need to do now is support the idea that people are individuals & need conform to no gender roles.
-
Once this is established as a norm, we needn't worry if many gendered trends of preferences still exist.
-
Feminist ideology which fights ghosts rather than asserting the autonomy we now have & encouraging women to make their lives as they choose
-
gets in the way of this & makes progress very difficult. It is at once defeatist & aggressive.
