No1s been able to give me example of patriarchy in the US w/out changing meaning to a)Men & women make different choices or b)assholes exist

Women aren't denied power under 'patriarchy'. Free yourself of this cancerous theory, there's women in power everywhere
-
They are denied ruling power or it isn't a patriarchy. I'm writing abt this now & academically focus on the kind of power women had under it
-
I say women here are not denied power because this isn't a patriarchy. Strong women can make it, but not if they cast themselves victims
-
I say the same thing. Cross-purposes. I thought you mean women aren't denied power in patriarchies but you meant that we're not in one?
-
I think it's possible for some women to have individual power in patriarchal societies (e.g. ancient Rome, medieval Europe)
-
But a "patriarchy" in which women have equal legal & political rights and are not subject to male authority? that makes no sense
-
None at all.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you defining patriarchy as a system of society in which men have ruling power & women are denied or not?
-
If you just mean 'sexist men still exist & can access positions of power' I agree that they do, can & that it has bad consequences

No. I am looking at the definition of 'patriarchy'. Do they show men to have access to ruling power women do not have? If so, which laws

Then we just need to sort out definitions & see if we are both talking about systems in which men have the power to rule women.

Is it still a patriarchy if men have vast majority of power? (seen in politicians, CEOs etc)
-
No, not if women can access these positions but choose to do so in much lower numbers
-
Thanks - can we be sure that it's all choice? I guess I should study up more on this issue.
-
That;s the question. No official barrier. Society is not set up to exclude them but sexist discrimination could still exist tho illegal
-
Face that it's illegal means we don't live in a patriarchy. The question of whether discrimination exists needs examining rigorously.

Right actually. You don't want to question whether discrimination exists? I agree with Helen. There are many of us who agree with Helen.
