I admit that I do tend to see humans as essentially good unless damaged physically or psychologically. Probably much more than is warranted.

I'm certainly not going with guilt by gender, race, sexuality etc. This isn't supported by evidence & is the opposite of liberal & humanist

Quick story: Once knew a guy with some variation on Aspergers. Smart as hell and actually quite nice, but truly horrible social skills.
-
In the same circle of friends, had a female friend who just simply couldn’t see past his social weakness.
-
He had started dating this woman’s best friend, and it was destroying their friendship. Sad to watch.

It took me a while to see it as well, to be fair. But I realized if I simply took everything he said, then paused a moment and sort of >

> restated it to myself as if it’d been said in the best and nicest way, then reacted as if that’s exactly what he had done, then suddenly >

> we were communicating. He started smiling because I’d actually heard what he was trying to say. That was a really valuable lesson.

:) Yeah. I've found myself feeling resentful & slighted by ppl with Asperger's before I knew that that was what it was. Understanding helps
