Well, I circulated various petitions for getting rid of VAT and putting it on unhealthy food so I assume so!

We buy a LOT of fruit and veg. I had a look at my most recent receipt. No VAT on it.

Not even on tomato ketchup! VAT only on kitchen roll, bottled water and the carrier bags

OK, well I'll go back over all that stuff then. It was about 9 years ago.

Maybe they changed it? But, and I stress, we do a lot of fruit / veg shopping and our VAT on a typical order (£40+) is less than £2.
