It can be if you want to try out a load of recipes but if not, pour cereal into bowl, top sea food onto plate, stick a potato in microwave.

For me it's a consequence of procrastination. I procrastinate on chores like dishwashing and I often don't plan meals ahead.
-
This means that in the moment the path of least resistance is to order a takeaway or go out for a meal or grab a sandwich from Tesco.
-
I'm sometimes better than this, but it's very easy to slip into bad habits and a lot harder to break them again.
-
Yes, I was more like this before having the child. Often just things to put on toast in the flat. Not a result of busyness tho.
-
I often feel busy, but I suspect I'm not really compared to others, especially parents!

It can certainly be quite a bit more expensive (depending on your circumstances), but not more time-consuming

It is where I live largely because of the shopping. Nearest store has almost no fresh produce. I have to do 45 min each way to get fresh.
-
But that's because I'm super rural--probably not the problem for other career women. :)

Not sure it's time; it's stress. (According to what I've seen.) Seems humans are wired to crave calorie-intensive foods under stress.

Laziness. And the false impression that to "eat healthy" means you have battle for the choicest overpriced kale at a farmer's market.

This is all purely anecdotal, but high-achieving carrier women around me are smoking hot and not very fat...
-
I'd venture the type of psychology that makes you high-achieving also makes you watch your diet. (but that's speculative)

Most meals that you can quickly buy on a short lunch break aren't very healthy.

Yup. I just can't accept the idea that fruit and veg cost more than fried chicken and pizza. Isn't true where I live.

Well I guess the logic is that preparing a meal with healthy ingredients takes longer than microwaving a ready-meal or ordering a takeaway!
-
True, but there are healthy options for ready-meals. and you can pick them up in most corner shops and local supermarkets.
