'Humanists differ so it's all relative & subjective & worthless.' And Christians don't, of course. Just one denomination all in agreement.

It doesn't matter how much you really, really, really, really think your moral premise is the right one. It doesn't become objectively true.
-
People making this argument exempt themselves from having picked or conformed to one of many value systems. Everyone else has done that tho
-
'Look' they say 'All these different systems of belief & values. Humans picking different values. Not me tho. Mine is objectively true.'
-
"Don't you want to be objectively right like me by being Protestant/Catholic/Sunni/Shia/Jehovah's Witness/Mormon. Get rid of subjectivity!"

Have updated this. I still hold out a naive hope of getting ppl arguing like this to see that they're on the same ground as everyone else.pic.twitter.com/WohGgMnOL7

You can't say 'I think my morality is objective coz I believe God dictated it. Therefore every other idea is subjective & inferior & I win'

It's easier to understand their position than where an stheist claims the same.

The objective morality boys? I trample on all comers, its the moral thing to do

Lots of atheists go down that rabbit hole as they think wrongly the theist's argument holds weight.

Cognitive dissonance isn't limited to the theistically inclined.

Yeah, if ethics are subjective, invoking a God doesn't change that; it just makes ethics subjective to God instead of or along with us.

Whatever people say, everyone believes in a hierarchy of value systems, you have to just to function. Unless you are a nihilist.

Yeah, I don't disagree, though I do think some frameworks are better than others, objectively.https://twitter.com/Intrinsic29/status/874762646968336384 …

What does it mean for a value to be optimised? Do you mean in terms of utility?
-
Basically satisfied, but with complex values, a term like optimize is better because one can satisfy 1 value at the expense of many others.
-
For instance, if I get angry at a video game, breaking my controller would satisfy some of my values but not optimally.
-
How is the notion of a value in that sense any different from a desire or drive?
-
It's not. Did I seem to imply that it was?
