What is the issue? What premise do you think we should base ethics on that has more validity than the wellbeing of humans?
We'll always have that problem. For you, its one religion. For someone else, its another. For another, its secular humanism.

We nearly all ground our principles in a system of thought. For some people its a religious system. For others, secular ethics.

Christ's teachings has some good bits but nothing original and not found elsewhere. Themes of brotherly love, charity etc are common.

Unless you think that version of that god is real, no reason to limit yourself to one set of teachings. Can reflect on & evaluate many.

We've come a long way since then. We'd now consider rape & slavery to be worthy of listing in ten core commandments, for example.
