I am a humanist and a liberal in the old sense of valuing equality & freedom.
That's fine. After basic human needs are met, liberal humanism supports everyone's right to live according to their own beliefs on this.

Basic needs are those all humans need to survive. You can certainly argue for a wider set & if arguments are good, people will be convinced.

I'd also argue for wider needs. Education, for example. Satisfying work. Freedom of speech & belief.
