I know extraversion & introversion are traits & attempts to make kids be more of one or other are likely to fail but also an imbalance.

We all tend to see the importance of encouraging kids to develop their social skills but do we stress the need to enjoy their own company?

To be happy spending time alone & developing the internal resources this requires? Maybe we do & I'm biased.

It feels to me that we don't. Sure, we might tell kids not to complain about being bored when they have games & books & toys.

But I'm not sure this is quite the same thing. I'd encourage my daughter to have a couple of nights a week w/out clubs, work, friends.

Just to learn to enjoy her own company. I think this likely to make it easier to walk away from bad relationships & friendships. But I dunno

I might be biased by being an introvert. I do feel more sorry for ppl who dislike being alone than those who dislike being in company.

An extreme aversion to either probably indicates a psych problem or neuro difference but its just so much easier to engineer being alone.

It doesn't require the cooperation of anyone else & its a right you can demand providing you can afford your own 4 walls.
