I am a humanist and a liberal in the old sense of valuing equality & freedom.
I suspect it might the premise that a certain god exists & wants certain things? But then you're in the same situation coz others disagree.

Yes. This is why we need a solid premise. I'd argue that humanism provides less justification for terrible things than religion does.

They don't need to have one. Objectively it has the same consequence as abstinence or contraception if done before brain developed.

Unless you are a Christian who believes a soul goes in a conception in which case the embryo goes to heaven rather than never existing.
