What is the issue? What premise do you think we should base ethics on that has more validity than the wellbeing of humans?
I suspect it might the premise that a certain god exists & wants certain things? But then you're in the same situation coz others disagree.
They think different gods exist & want different things or no god exists so u really have to argue for ethical principles like everyone else
Yes. This is why we need a solid premise. I'd argue that humanism provides less justification for terrible things than religion does.
They don't need to have one. Objectively it has the same consequence as abstinence or contraception if done before brain developed.
Unless you are a Christian who believes a soul goes in a conception in which case the embryo goes to heaven rather than never existing.
That's fine. After basic human needs are met, liberal humanism supports everyone's right to live according to their own beliefs on this.
We've been here, Heather. I'm arguing for humanism which opposes this. Basic human needs are food, shelter, medicine, safety.
Basic needs are those all humans need to survive. You can certainly argue for a wider set & if arguments are good, people will be convinced.
I'd also argue for wider needs. Education, for example. Satisfying work. Freedom of speech & belief.
