In reality, it seems the shop did have girls' versions too. If it didn't, a simple action like this cld have some impact on parents or shop

It's the kind of activism I approve of. Simple, non-abusive, reasonable. Whether it;s needed right now is different matter.

it's utterly ineffective - a chain store wouldn't know it happened. A mum-and-dad operation will just be irritated.

The effectiveness of it is a different point. I found this kind of non-aggressive activism helpful in feminism in the 90s.
