Not much harder. I'm as tired as anyone of ideological hysteria around women in STEM but this seems moderate & unobjectionable to me. https://twitter.com/meghanarchy/status/874360873346899968 …
OK but is a 16 year old having to walk across a room really a reason not to offer science related products to girls? In principle? 1/2

In reality, it seems the shop did have girls' versions too. If it didn't, a simple action like this cld have some impact on parents or shop
-
It's the kind of activism I approve of. Simple, non-abusive, reasonable. Whether it;s needed right now is different matter.
-
it's utterly ineffective - a chain store wouldn't know it happened. A mum-and-dad operation will just be irritated.
-
The effectiveness of it is a different point. I found this kind of non-aggressive activism helpful in feminism in the 90s.
-
…sorry, I'm confused; what's the point of ineffective activism? If it doesn't accomplish anything, why bother?
-
I'm not making that argument. The discussion about what is and isn't effective is a different one. I found this kind of thing helps tho.
-
I don't mean to pick a fight with you - I just can't see how this actually accomplishes anything positive. At all.
-
Yes, so you've said. I have understood your opinion on this.

in principle, no, but this will change nothing.
-
Different point. If shops routinely put such things in boys sections and people routinely moved them, this could change their minds.
-
I see this as better than a) ignoring the problem or b) calling the shop misogynist and demanding it be punished in some way
-
better to write a letter or send an email to deal with it, instead of being passive-aggressive on social media.
-
OK, that's a different discussion. We can talk about methods of activism which are most effective.
-
That's different to whether we should make a point about gender roles if it requires a 16 year old to walk across a room.
-
If all it achieves is to make a 16 year old walk across a room, then I suppose it's helping a bit with the obesity epidemic at least.
