Not much harder. I'm as tired as anyone of ideological hysteria around women in STEM but this seems moderate & unobjectionable to me. https://twitter.com/meghanarchy/status/874360873346899968 …

I've worked one of those jobs. Trust me; some 16-year-old got yelled at over this and had to put them back.

OK but is a 16 year old having to walk across a room really a reason not to offer science related products to girls? In principle? 1/2

In reality, it seems the shop did have girls' versions too. If it didn't, a simple action like this cld have some impact on parents or shop

It's the kind of activism I approve of. Simple, non-abusive, reasonable. Whether it;s needed right now is different matter.

it's utterly ineffective - a chain store wouldn't know it happened. A mum-and-dad operation will just be irritated.

The effectiveness of it is a different point. I found this kind of non-aggressive activism helpful in feminism in the 90s.

…sorry, I'm confused; what's the point of ineffective activism? If it doesn't accomplish anything, why bother?

I'm not making that argument. The discussion about what is and isn't effective is a different one. I found this kind of thing helps tho.

I'm not aware of any ideological hysteria around women in STEM - only aware of the lack of women in STEM. Have I been living under a rock?

Possibly. Everything alienating & discriminating against women & its scaring them off. Nothing to do with choices. See #shirtstorm

I catch your drift. I've been to 2 women in STEM conferences in the past yr- biggest problems are inflexible work hrs + lack of childcare.

Believe me,it does! I've worked with men in STEM who are frustrated by inflexibility and childcare- lack of paid parental leave doesn't help
