I'm losing patience with what is often called 'mansplaining.' I don't call it that coz a) sexist & b) men don't do it more to me.

If I need a very basic explanation of something, I will ask for it. It probably won't be what atheism or feminism is.

I should be more patient. Usually when someone gives you the wikipedia summary of a issue, it's coz it's info they've recently acquired.

Because historically men used to be more educated and education to women came after so they used to explain to women things they didn't know

Simplistic. A more nuanced view of history gives a different picture.

Even if men WERE proven to do it more, couldn't it just be a sign of them trying to impress women, rather than proof of them being "toxic"?

I think the many false accusations are exactly that tho not consciously, more an evolved trait of displaying knowledge which is power.

Definitely thinking evolved, like an extension of ancient innate peacocking. But if men cite "evolution" they too often get the eye-roll.

Not in my experience. The person driving me mad right now is a woman & this is just as often the case.

Working academia, I actually fear being accused of this so it actually changes the way I interact with (hyper progressive) women 1/?

So, the accusations that men treat discourse with women different than men actually becomes a self fulfilling prophecy 4 me at least 2/?

But in my case it's having to tread on eggshells and try to directly confront or disagree with someone rather than the opposite claim 3/3

I've always thought the word a rather transparent attempt to imply women aren't capable of being condescending or patronising.
