I learnt to be afraid of spiders coz other girls were. My mother wasn't & I was fine til then. Also hid my fear from my daughter & it worked

I think so, yes. Built on top of natural tendencies for boys to show off & girls to be dramatic & possibly an instinctive fear we all have.

Unlike snakes, that fear doesn't appear to be universal. I have to overcome fear to pick up a snake, not so a spider.

Not in my case, certainly. I have been nervous when handling large aggressive snakes but this is rational.

Had long convoys abt this with ppl sending me study upon study abt whether fear of them an evolved mechanism.
