It seems to be instinctive in women. Both my wife and daughter are terrified of them. Myself and my son, not at all.

If it's constructed why is it specifically spiders? It is my only real phobia but not fear, more like horror. I fear sharks but I eat them.

Hyper vigilance of all cc would perhaps be evolutionarily selected for in some natural environments.

Perhaps. But then again, you could imagine that it's probably not a good thing to be terrified of cc, given there are a lot of them about.

I can tell you it's a real pain being a male & terrified of large spiders in the UK. It's only useful in imposing a limit on my self esteem.
