Stop telling me spiders are harmless & useful. My fear of them is not a rational one. It is impervious to facts & reasoning.

It seems to be instinctive in women. Both my wife and daughter are terrified of them. Myself and my son, not at all.

I'm not sure about that. Wouldn't make much sense for 1 sex to develop an instinctive fear. If we have 1 maybe boys more likely to resist it

I learnt to be afraid of spiders coz other girls were. My mother wasn't & I was fine til then. Also hid my fear from my daughter & it worked

Wow. You're claiming your fear of spiders is a cultural construct?

I think so, yes. Built on top of natural tendencies for boys to show off & girls to be dramatic & possibly an instinctive fear we all have.

I don't suffer from it at all. Actually one of the few fears I don't suffer from!

I didn't. And I was determined Lucy wouldn't so I used to pretend to be pleased to see spiders & ask her if she'd like to pick it up.

Changing subject, but it's so strange. Pepe had a 5 year long fear of children & would growl at any passing. But he suddenly just stopped.

I only noticed it a few weeks ago, but his phobia has completely vanished. It's a doggy miracle.

Hmmm. Maybe he had a good experience you didn't know about?
