Stop telling me spiders are harmless & useful. My fear of them is not a rational one. It is impervious to facts & reasoning.

I think so, yes. Built on top of natural tendencies for boys to show off & girls to be dramatic & possibly an instinctive fear we all have.

I didn't. And I was determined Lucy wouldn't so I used to pretend to be pleased to see spiders & ask her if she'd like to pick it up.

If you say 'Shall I put the spider out or would you like to do it' to a three year old, she says 'me, me me!' No idea of being afraid.
