Why place such weight on reason when it seems such a minor part of our psychology? Because, under right conditions, reason is *cumulative*.

Reason builds on reason, like how mathematicians build on proofs, in a way that simply can't be explained at the evo-psych level.

And it seems to me that it's the cumulative property of reason and knowledge which is what's ultimately responsible for progress.
