It doesn't, but reason/knowledge/science is a very important part in that it's the only part which allows us to make progress.
Yes but people always thought that. But I agree with you that what we both understand to be genuine knowledge actually does that!

I'm just not sure that it's driving western culture to the extent it did only 20 years ago & I'm not completely optimistic it will recover.
