No! I'm talking about whether people who support gender equality should think positively of gender-specific modesty ideas!

Both put emphasis on a woman's body and her womanhood in a very negative way.
-
Yes. Women must be free to take on those modesty ideas but we can still criticise them.
-
Yes. We should be free to dress as modestly or as sexy as we like, but let's not kid ourselves ab religion, its tools, & what they signify.

As someone raised by a Christian father with strong views on gender modesty (and we don't even have the hijab), I say it's very damaging.
-
THAT'S the actual problem, and not one piece of towel. Many Waldorf School force a hat on all kids, long dresses on girls, all wool/cotton.
-
Yes. It's about it being imposed to cover any traces of womanhood (and sexuality). And that's precisely the meaning of the hijab, burka etc.
-
Actually plenty of woman use the scarf just as versatile as a nice hairdo to look nicer.
-
Sure, but the hijab isn't just a little fashion item. It's a religious headwear meant to "protect" a woman's "modesty".

It's just as damaging as being constantly bullied or laughed at for how you look (weight, beauty etc). At least that's how I experienced it.
