14th century is utterly insane religiously & women were a big part of that (sorry). I cld spend 3 years very happily here.

Kind of interested what religiously insane is in this context...
-
Mysticism. Flagellants. Lots of weeping & wailing & falling all over the place.
-
What a time to be alive. A bit like qame zani today?
-
A bit but different causes. Trying to mollify God & get him to stop punishing them with the plague.
-
Was it cultish behavior, or really widely practised? Was there critique at the time?
-
Cultish but big. Church condemned it & England never really caught the fervour. More in keeping with continental piety
-
Sounds like good thesis fodder...

As usual, all the books I want cost hundreds of pounds but I have these to be getting on with, then British Library.pic.twitter.com/rgNSVI1c5l

Many of the books & essays I want on religious writing by & for women are written by feminists & this is a mixed bag.

But I have hopes of this one. It's index is refreshingly light on postmodernists.

Sounds interesting. Was that the time of trenchers?
-
That doesn't mean anything to me.
-
What will you be focusing on w/in the reach of the 14th Century? Think trenchers were "plates" made of hard bread, back then...
-
Oh, yes! That is a term for bread. I was imagining a religious movement for some reason! I look at religion & women in it.
-
That sounds interesting too, even without the weird bread religion
