Harm, yes. That needs clarifying. I don't need arguments for being a person or justifications of what I mean by happiness.
We are all free & all individuals. This is unchallenged in nearly every area. I need arguments only for those areas that are challenged.
I have arguments for those. But generally it comes down to 'unless you can demonstrate that I'm harming others in some way, leave me alone.'
Both the left and the right criticise the liberal conception of the person. Seeing each of us as being more situated than liberals allow.
None of my ethics rely on conceptions of the person or arguing that they are not situated culturally or historically.
There can certainly be discussions abt what personhood is & whether a stable self & free will exist, if you want them.
Maybe it boils down to the question of whether we each have a private conscience from whence we can reflect on our situated values?
