It seems that shame at harming others could just as well lead to more behaviors that harm others and oneself. I do not think it’s simple.
-
Which is why we fine/imprison ppl, not just shame, 4 crimes. But being fat != crime. Read the fat shaming thread.
-
I do not see a consistent logical argument explaining in exactly what situations shame is helpful. I’d like to see real-world data too.
-
The only argument I'm making is that fat shaming is counterproductive. I don't hv 'data', this is Twitter! Pls address this in the thread.
-
No1 else is trying 2 define what situations shaming is and isn't effective in. Only you. You are talking 2 yrself here.
-
@IonaItalia@HPluckrose I understand. Just trying to see if there is any hint of a general principle here. Real-world data inform policy. -
I think it's an interesting topic. Is there any reading you could recommend on the subject?
-
I'm not familiar with the literature on the subject, but I do find the topic interesting. When does shame help/hurt? https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=de&q=shame+and+rehabilitation …
