I really feel we need a women's movement to defend against this 'feminist' attack on our reputation. (I am a bit cross now.)
I'm sorry. I do try to talk abt things other than the current state of feminism & the academic left occasionally. Success rate not great.
It's not so much the sate of feminism as of 'a feminism'. There's lots of brilliant, clear, incisive, & analytic feminism being practised.
I wouldn't say 'a lot' to be honest. Non-intersectional libfems do still exist but I've only found 11 so far.
There's such brilliant work by the likes of Nussbaum, Okin, Anderson, J R Richards, Fricker, Langton, etc.. So much good stuff out there.
Still some dodgy views on gender identity, sex-work and an assumption that women are oppressed in the west in there.
Must one agree with an author's conclusions for their work to be good?
Yes. The bad conclusions usually come from a faulty premise. You can reason beautifully from that but it will still come out wrong.
I can find common ground with reasonable people with all sorts of bad ideas. I've picked up some radfems & some intersectionals.
But I still can't get on board with the ideologies. Gender equality simply can't be pursued properly coming from one side only.
