I'm getting better with the mute button. I don't understand ppl who won't engage in good faith. What do they get from engaging at all?
I get this but means they generally censor something inside themselves that wants to oppose mindlessly for sake of opposing. Why?

I think many of us have a reflexive urge to say things that might not be appropriate at times, but face-to-face norms keep that in check.
-
We moderate our tone, soften our approach, or simply don’t say whatever it is. But here the consequences for impolitesse are much lower.
-
But it's not about manners but what we hope to achieve. What's the point is simply being oppositional w/out having a point to make
-
Maybe it’s what some people do instead of annoying their family, or going to the pub and talking shite to whomever’s in earshot, etc.

Eh, I don’t know. I think on occasion I’ve thought ‘this person is so annoying that i’ll likely disagree with anything they say’.
-
That’s pretty mindless opposition. And while I’m a pretty polite person, I can see where the motivation comes from.
-
And further, I have to assume that not everyone has my restrained personality. :-)
