why? modesty (in men & women) *is* a virtue. you can acknowledge that without insisting it be imposed by society

It should be a feminist principle that women should not be burdened by expectations to cover up more than bare minimum men are.
-
I'd frame it as "the same principles should apply to both"
-
But the principles may or may not be good ones. If neither men nor women are allowed to be atheists, this is still wrong.
-
yes, but then the question becomes one of evaluating the principles on their own merits, not potentially differing applications
-
That's the first step, yes. The principle itself. Then ensuring that it covers everyone.

I am a liberal humanist so I argue for those ones. Giving women equal rights is better than not giving women equal rights.
-
Equal marriage is better than throwing gay men off buildings. Being able to dress for the weather better than being covered at all times.
-
but the former is not a norm based issue
-
Huh? The death penalty for homosexuality has been and is law all over the place. So much of a norm, it's been enshrined in laws.
