It also gave highly-placed women power over the majority of men who weren't. However, patriarchy did exist. Not now. Not in UK & US.

I disagree. Patriarchy may no longer rule absolutely, but it does still exist, and still competes for ruling power. Trumpism is an example.

But America doesn't have a patriarchy. Men do not have power & authority over women. It does still have the religious right.
