There does seem to be a resurge of fundamentalism generally of late though.

Yes, I shall be publishing something on this in the next few days.

How goes? My best description: The recent resurgence of Islamism has disrupted an evolutionarily stable state in the religious memepool.
-
Also postmodernism promoting subjective truth and mininarratives and undervaluing evidence and reason

could it be that the "litmus test" of fighting islamophobia have created an environment where blasphemy laws are "to protect sensitivities"?
-
Could you rephrase?
-
the charge came about on the premise that he could cause offense or harm the sensitivity of a community, it is the argument of islamophobia.
-
No-one denies that this is done in the name of Islam too & much more widely. In Ireland, tho, it's Catholics making this argument.

Ireland and Poland are also still quite religious. This might not be understood by many foreigners.I did understand that nobody has been
-
prosecuted under this law since 1885? Yet they haven't revoked it. This tells you something.
-
As per the Constitution there has to be a blasphemy law, it would take a referendum to revoke this.
-
Really? That's interesting. Is this truly the reason it hasn't been revoked though? Coz I would say; Time for a referendum.

-
It was considered too expensive and time-consuming at the time.
-
It would seem like this is the perfect time to consider doing it anyway. Apparently it's needed Human rights seem worthy of the time & money
-
Yes. We were in the middle of the financial crisis at the time. Hopefully this case will bring it to a head.
-
I'm hopeful. I have no idea how many of the Irish people would support revoking this law & how important it would be to them.
