again i wonder whether the implied symmetry is valid, or whether positions have to be assessed concretely in a given social context.
Yes but do you think we can only oppose discrimination by making the majority pretend to hold views they don't?
-
-
no. i think that creating social pressure for the majority to adjust their views and behavior would be a better solution than legislation.
-
There we agree. Think strategically & try to influence society rather than being authoritarian &/or alienating ppl by offense-seeking.

I don't think we can. We can only say 'Believe what you want and say so but you mustn't discriminate.'
-
i think "you mustn't discriminate" is an illusory goal to believe in discrimination can always find ways around laws
-
Yes, it can, but we unless we can prove this, not much we can do. That's where we just try to make society more receptive.
-
that reminds me that i'm very weak on the "doing" part anyway. i think a lot about concepts/theory, not so much about how to affect change.
-
I'm exactly the same but I defend this on the grounds that change is effected above all by attitudes changing & if I can change some...
-
(i am annoyed about my typo that you just sneakily corrected)

-
Hahaha! I didn't actually notice but this annoys me too. I do not doubt that you know the diff between 'affect' and 'effect.' XD
